Hi Its almost Satureday ann I am babysitting Lily right now. She wanted me to do a sleepover so I am in her bed with her typing away. Her mom went out on a date then came back to change and went out again. I probably wont see her till the am.
It is so hot and muggy here you can cut the air with a knife and slice it. Maybe a storm is brewing.
Nothing much new here. Just babysitting for the weekend and chillin.

well gm to u carla

i guess everyone is sleeping in today, cause it almost 7 am in new jersey
and nobody has posted since you did.

its raining here and a good day to sit back down and read, which i think
sounds like a plan to me.  im still exhausted from this past week.  having
my son here was wonderful, but i think our one day trip into new york city
just was toooo much walking for my ankle, sigh.

anyway i wish everyone a great day, i have to go feed the meow, he is
crying.

hugs to all, jacki

Jacki,

Hope your Mom's birthday party was a success!  Glad you enjoyed having your son there and sure hope that your ankle gains strength over time. . .

Hugs, Laureen

Good Morning Carla and Friends,

I haven't taken the time to post more than a few words in the last week or so. You know that proverbial chicken? The one running around with its head cut off? That would be what my life has been like lately.

We went to the Washington coast last week, had both truck and husband with major "health" issues, both are better but certainly not like new!

I'm home until Tuesday when I'll head back to Chehalis with Lucy (Maggie's year old puppy who came to visit her Mommy). On Thursday Erin, the twins and I fly out of Seattle to St. Louis for the Labor Day week to visit family there. Suggestions for entertaining 2 17 month olds for 4 hours? Their attention span is about 3 minutes so I don't think we can take enough of anything for 4 hours. We have to spend from 8-10am at the airport so hopefully we'll run them ragged and they'll nap for an hour or so. Perhaps a bit of Tylenol or Benedryl????? Erin doesn't like to give them anything so it my be MIMI that needs the drugs! They have us seated way in the back next to the galley and the bathrooms. Should be interesting to say the least!

I'll arrive back in Seattle the Tuesday after Labor Day, drive home on Wednesday morning, wash and repack and head to Dallas on Thursday. . . Insane you say? Probably but I just had to wish my favorite redhead a joyous coming of age in person! Hopefully my time on the plane to Dallas will be spent in a deep beauty sleep.

Our garden is producing tons of tomatos and cucumbers. Scrounging around among the little yellow crookneck squash I found one huge cantaloupe! We didn't even know it was there and it's almost ready to pick. Haven't ever grown anything like that except pumpkins before.

Our weather has gone from hot to overcast, windy, and I see some lightening in the distant sky. We could sure use some rain.

Nothing much else going on in my world. Having my brother and sis in law over for dinner tomorrow. They just returned from a two week cruise starting in Amsterdam. They visited the Scandinavian countries and Russia by boat. Sounds like it was a wonderful cruise. They said it would be hard to visit as many cities as they did any other way than by boat.

Mike caught some Walleye. We'll also have fresh salad using the bounty from our garden, and local corn. I'm going to make oven fries from a Rachel Ray recipe on tv and attempt to copy my mom's blackberry cobbler with the berries I picked at the beach and while waiting 6 hours for the truck to get a new power steering pump and ignition switch in Aberdeen, WA. That was one expensive trip to the beach!

It's not even 5am and I should go back to bed but I started my evening with about a 3 hour nap on the couch at 7pm. . . You all have a nice weekend. Our local fair is going on but I think I'll pass on it this year. Don't need any fair food! I like the music and running into people I haven't seen in a long while, but I imagine they still stay open without me there.

You all take care and Carla I'll be seeing you soon!

oh yummy wall-eye,can i come up and have supper with you? plus blackberry cobble, i would think i had died and gone to heaven....
good morning Carla and all offers.
it has been a weird month for weather in August here ...nights down in the 50s days in low 80s. usually our August is hot and humid andhot and humid.. and more of the same. I looked on the farmers almanac and it is saying that we will have more of the same in Sept and Oct. cooler than normal with lots of rain...
like i said very odd weather for the Ozarks...
my eggplant in the garden finally decided to grow and produce. and im getting lots of them to put up. i plant the small light purple ones not the big black ones. I made a eggplant casserole a couple of nights ago and it was so so so good.
slice eggplant and in a skillet that you have sprayed with pam brown on both sides after sprinkling it with basil and garlic
set those aside and slice up a skillet ful of ripe tomato slices just till they are tender not falling apart then layer both of those in a casserol dish and i put pepper jack cheese on the top and popped it in over till the cheese was melted and all bubbly oh yum i dont know how the calories or anything else would be but shouldnt be bad for us since it is only veggies and cheese...

our new renters a young couple he is 21 and she is 18 , gosh can you remember being that young? they are expecting their first baby...oh lord she looks like she is 16...but i had my first one at 17 so i guess she is old enough to be a mother. lol .
anyway they came over to ask me something and i was cooking the eggplant and he and she both said oh my what are you cooking that smells wonderful ...i told them well i bet it is something that you have never tried because it doent sound good and when i told them it was eggplant he said well i dont know what it taste like but it sure smells good. she then ask me if i would help her learn how to cook lol me? teach someone how to cook ? ive never thought of myself as a good cook...just someone that throws stuff together so it will fill bellys lol
anyway i told her that i would be glad to help her in anyway i could and ask her if she has a good cook book ? so i recommended the Better Homes and garden cook book that is the one that i have had since i got married.
well enough of my blabbling
today is going to be dedacated to getting stuff out of the green house and into boxes ...when i get time in the spring i will have a big garage sale. i already have 10 of the big big plastic totes filled with stuff...why do we hang on to so much stuff. i have 2 of those huge tubs filled with decorating things that i will never use again dont know why i have hung on to them...good grief. need to de clutter.
well im late , im late , im late.    said the mad hatter ? or was it the rabbit?

This will be my first attempt making Mom's cobbler. There was no recipe; she cooked like you do. A bit of this, a dab of that, a handful of flour etc. . . . So it may be interesting! The eggplant sounds wonderful. I'm going to pass that "recipe" along to my friend who absolutely loves it, any way, shape or form!

Better Homes and Gardens is definitely the cookbook of my choice.  Had it for 30+ years.  I use their recipe for pancakes and my kids always loved them.  I never could remember the recipe.   I do remember my kids getting the cookbook on a Saturday morning and asking me to make pancakes.  I guess that says enough about the cookbook.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

My dad used to cook cottage cheese pancakes with strawberries.  I kid you not.
They were fabulous.
We always had cottage cheese pancakes with strawberries for Christmas morning.
It was a family tradition.

They were the best pancakes in the world.. Now I'm thinking that might be good ..  I just dont' know how to make them.
